So a big thing in the news recently has been the Brasilian Miracle Baby . So I won't go over what happened, that's what the link is for, I just had to comment because Pampulha is in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Yeah, I lived there for a couple of years.
It is annoying that most all the english accounts talk about the location in terms of it's distance from Rio. Belo Horizonte has 5 million people, we can talk about it as it's own city people. Quite a few reports even say it happened in Rio de Janeiro, which is like saying the Golden Gate Bridge is in LA.
Another annoyance is the fact that they all describe lake Pampulha as a lagoon, which doesn't really fit . Remember, Belo Horizonte is located inland , hundreds of miles from the ocean. I think people just see the word "Lagoa" and think that's the translation, Lagoon != Lake though.
Anyways, I lived pretty close to Pampulha a couple of times, when I was in the city, but never right in the area. Some very nice stuff around their though.

So, I do enjoy table-top gaming from time to time, and it's amazing how accurate this video is about a lot of these people. Too bad I can't directly include it like most google videos. Anyways, you gotta check it out if you haven't already. A "Documentary" (in the Michael Moore sense of the word) about RPG gamers.

So on saturday we went to see Hoodwinked , a new CG style kids movie. I was quite surprised. From the previews I wasn't quite sure how I would like it. The animation looked very dark, and not too impressive, and I couldn't tell what storyline was.
Well after watching it, I'll say I was pleasantly impressed. The animation for 'Red' did still bug me, but the rest of the characters were quite good. The story was fun, and the voice talent was excellent. Plenty of humor for parents and kids. Garion really had fun with the whole thing.
I did learn that Kelly hasn't ever seen Fletch they deliverately use the Fletch character for the wolf, which had me laughing quite hard when other people weren't :)

Those that know me (even a little) know about my love affair with Perl (sorry Kelly :) ). They also know of the many things I don't like about certain other languages, one of those being PHP. Well in #utah today (irc.freenode.net) dataw0lf posted a link that I hadn't seen before, but will now be something I refer people to: behold PHP in contrast to Perl

sjansen posted an old link to a review he did of some network tools, that I wanted to post back to. Especially because in the thread that brought this out, I misnamed my recommendation. While I like ntop, in my head I was thinking of iftop.

Man, what fun. Kind of a mix of the drone's in CCG, and the gatling cannons.

Finally, google's talk supports the Jabber s2s protocol. The open source community was quite happy when we saw that Google's instant messenger was built using the wonderful Jabber protocol. One of the nicest things about the protocol is that like email, it allows for independent servers to work together, instead of the single 'server' that other IM systems use. Problem is, Google had it turned off at first. But now it's open, and any Google talk user can now connect to other Jabber users. All the PLUG users can setup their accounts, as well as people like me who run their own servers. My account is just my nickname at lug-nut.com, the same as the email address.
See how nice custom addresses are?

Just an example of the difference. This example taken from the "Buzz Lightyear" ride at Disneyland just before Christmas. Note, while Garion didn't have a high score, he did hold the gun correctly. Even made his own gun noises :)
Please note the score..

What the heck, one of my ad's on the last post was to get a free copy of Red Hat verision 9.0. Now, why the heck would you pay to give away RH9?
Those who know me, will know that I in no way am demeaning Linux quite the opposite, I encourage everybody to try it, or other unix systems (mac, *BSD). I am the president of PLUG after all. But get real, RedHat 9.0 is sooo old. There are many other free choices, and I'll even help you get them setup if you want. Please, ask me about installing Linux!
And while I want you to click on them thar ads, get real folks.

So, the Seahawks made it past the first round, and now host the Carolina Panthers in the NFC championship game. Amazing, my hawks are hosting the championship. Even better, they are favored. Please don't let me down now guys, 'cause I really think you can do it!

FINALLY!!! The seahawks just won their first playoff game since 1984, even with me watching! The curse is broken. The game went about as I expected, Washington's defense really pushing the passing game hard. I was really surprised by the number of Seahawks fumbles though.

Had a bug in r114 of Agave, where it attempted to forward you to the HTTP_REFERRER after you made a comment. Previously it had looked up the Post object, and gone to the view method of the controller. Neither quite worked in the current code, so I patched it to use the Redirect, as they had used, but actually give the correct post URI. This works now. No more errors because it couldn't go back to the post.

So Howard launched a new page that is worth checking out.
So I had to just look some in Google video for a little Capoeira. So when I served my LDS mission in Brasil, I saw, and then learned a little of this amazing martial art form. I loved it. Granted, I can't do a thing with it now, but I did learn some (cordão verde :) ). Would love to learn how to do more. Anyways, here's a couple videos I just found...

So back where I grew up, by the Puget Sound, there grows the worlds largest octopus. But we don't have many sharks (besides dogfish). Now with this video at the aquarium, I can see why.

And now even Penny Arcade is getting into the swing of things.

Now that I've been able to get into the apple store site and look, they do have the ability to upgrade the drive to a 7200 rpm for $100. A bit pricey, same as adding $20gb through them.
