Google Talk goes s2s

Finally, google’s “talk”: supports the “Jabber”:jabber s2s protocol. The open source community was quite happy when we saw that Google’s instant messenger was built using the wonderful “Jabber”:jabber protocol. One of the nicest things about the protocol is that like email, it allows for independent servers to work together, instead of the single ‘server’ that other IM systems use. Problem is, Google had it turned off at first. But now it’s open, and any Google talk user can now connect to other Jabber users. All the “PLUG”: users can setup their accounts, as well as people like me who run their own servers. My account is just my nickname at, the same as the email address.

See how nice custom addresses are?
