So a big thing in the news recently has been the “Brasilian Miracle Baby”:http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&ie=UTF-8&ncl=http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story%3Fid%3D1560574 . So I won’t go over what happened, that’s what the link is for, I just had to comment because Pampulha is in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Yeah, I lived there for a couple of years.
It is annoying that most all the english accounts talk about the location in terms of it’s distance from Rio. Belo Horizonte has 5 million people, we can talk about it as it’s own city people. Quite a few reports even say it happened in Rio de Janeiro, which is like saying the Golden Gate Bridge is in LA.
Another annoyance is the fact that they all describe lake Pampulha as a lagoon, which “doesn’t really fit”:http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3A+lagoon&btnG=Google+Search . Remember, “Belo Horizonte”:http://www.belohorizonte.mg.gov.br/por/index.php is “located inland”:http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=belo+horizonte+Brasil&ll=-19.919131,-44.008827&spn=0.186892,0.309677&t=k , hundreds of miles from the ocean. I think people just see the word “Lagoa” and think that’s the translation, Lagoon != Lake though.
Anyways, I lived pretty close to Pampulha a couple of times, when I was in the city, but never right in the area. Some very nice stuff around their though.
So, I do enjoy table-top gaming from time to time, and it’s amazing how accurate this video is about a lot of these people. Too bad I can’t directly include it like most google videos. Anyways, you gotta check it out if you haven’t already. A “Documentary” (in the Michael Moore sense of the word) about RPG gamers.

So on saturday we went to see “Hoodwinked”:http://www.hoodwinkedthemovie.com/ , a new CG style kids movie. I was quite surprised. From the previews I wasn’t quite sure how I would like it. The animation looked very dark, and not too impressive, and I couldn’t tell what storyline was.
Well after watching it, I’ll say I was pleasantly impressed. The animation for ‘Red’ did still bug me, but the rest of the characters were quite good. The story was fun, and the voice talent was excellent. Plenty of humor for parents and kids. Garion really had fun with the whole thing.
I did learn that Kelly hasn’t ever seen “Fletch”:http://imdb.com/title/tt0089155/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnx0dD0xfGZiPXV8cG49MHxrdz0xfHE9ZmxldGNofGZ0PTF8bXg9MjB8bG09NTAwfGNvPTF8aHRtbD0xfG5tPTE_;fc=1;ft=21;fm=1 they deliverately use the Fletch character for the wolf, which had me laughing quite hard when other people weren’t 🙂
Those that know me (even a little) know about my love affair with “Perl”:http://www.perl.org (sorry Kelly 🙂 ). They also know of the many things I don’t like about certain other languages, one of those being PHP. Well in #utah today (irc.freenode.net) dataw0lf posted a link that I hadn’t seen before, but will now be something I refer people to: behold “PHP in contrast to Perl”:http://tnx.nl/php
“sjansen”:http://www.buscaluz.com/ posted an old “link to a review”:http://blogs.gurulabs.com/stuart/archives/2005/03/four_network_mo.html he did of some network tools, that I wanted to post back to. Especially because in the thread that brought this out, I misnamed my recommendation. While I like “ntop”:http://www.ntop.org/, in my head I was thinking of “iftop”:http://www.ex-parrot.com/~pdw/iftop/.
Man, what fun. Kind of a mix of the drone’s in CCG, and the gatling cannons.
If you really want us to believe you make that much money, the image counts
Baby Hall no longer, welcome to the family Robyn Ann Hall.
And another congrats to my brother Jeremy, and his family on their new addition (wow, happening a lot lately).
